Speaker Spotlight: Hugh Lashbrooke

We asked each of our speakers a few questions about themselves and their connection with WordPress – here’s what Hugh had to say.

Hugh LashbrookeHugh is a self-taught geek, PHP developer and father from Cape Town currently working as a lead developer at WooThemes. Outside of his work at WooThemes he has numerous plugins in the WordPress.org repo and is heavily involved in the local WordPress community. He is also a new father and loving the joys and challenges that come with that.

How are you involved with WordPress and the WordPress community?

I am a developer at WooThemes where I work on a number of WooCommerce extensions as well as head up development on our e-learning plugin, Sensei. I am also very involved in the Cape Town WordPress community where I organise events, meetups, hackathons and this very WordCamp.

What excites you most about WordPress?

The community that has developed around WordPress is amazing – I love the software, but I find the people more exciting. Seeing the events, connections and talent develop in the WordPress community is incredible and absolutely awe-inspiring.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

The ability to never age – that way I could always be a young dad and would always be able to play with my daughter as she grows up.
