Speaker Spotlight: Emma Dicks

We asked each of our speakers a few questions about themselves and their connection with WordPress – here’s what Emma had to say.

Emma DicksEmma is passionate about seeing young South Africans creating their own solutions to important problems and believes that WordPress is a powerful tool to this end. She runs the Code4CT Challenge which aims to introduce high school girls to coding for the Web and get them building solutions to local challenges. She is currently the Director of New Initiatives at Innovate South Africa.

How are you involved with WordPress and the WordPress community?

I run a program called Code4CT which teaches high school girls to use WordPress to create communication platforms between local organisations and the people they serve.

What excites you most about WordPress?

WordPress is one of the most accessible platforms to allow everyday citizens to participate in building and creating the web.

If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

Instant dictionary memorisation skills. I have a deep love for learning languages, as I believe it is a powerful gesture to speak someone’s mother tongue, but would gladly speed up the hours acquiring new words.
